How to Beat The Winter Blues and Be Happy in January

 

 It’s such a bleak time of the year and it’s hard to feel happy when all you see is grey clouds and wet, winter weather and shorter (darker) days. It’s not the most exciting time of the year especially when you’re broke after the festive season, don’t get me wrong the excitement you feel when you see your friends and family smile is priceless but the facts are you don’t have the extra cash to splurge makes it even more miserable. My mood levels and energy levels in this month dip high and low like a yo-yo. Turns out one of the reasons may be because iv been suffering from winter blues. Luckily I made a few simple lifestyle changes that didn’t cost me much to kick the winter blues. Here are some tips that will make you beat the winter blues without breaking the bank and stay happy at the same time.

There is a lot of demand on you during the Christmas period social obligations, financial obligations, pleasing everyone but it doesn’t have to be like this all you need is a plan especially one that includes exercise, eating healthy and mood-boosting items that you have lying around the home.

Euphoric Feeling of UGGs

When you pull out the UGGs you know winter has officially arrived! however, the January month is a perfect excuse to switch to a winter wardrobe. Personally, I love wrapping up in thick woolly hats and knitted jumpers…. there is nothing better than a big, cosy baggy jumper!
To optimise the feeling of being snug and warm is something that you can achieve through layering so take out the UGGs or your warmest boots and don’t neglect your feet and head. I bet you didn’t know that body temperature affects our mood and the way we feel warmth often evokes feelings of happiness.

Daylight is Coming

Daylight is coming, yes it’s not here yet but it’s on its way, it won’t always be this way, it will become noticeably lighter which means it will be far easier to get out of bed in the morning and soak up some of the vitamin D when you finally see the sun. So now the winter blues will soon disappear.

Candles Are An Instant Mood Lifter

The most frequent times I use my candles are mostly during the winter months I’m obsessed with lighting candles to add and create a happy atmosphere and soft warm mood. Honestly, The best candles to get are the fragranced ones, the aroma elevates the senses and your mood instantly. Go and check out the most favourite candles that I still obsess over and get the most compliments on. These vary in cost and you don’t have to spend a fortune to feel happy.

 

 

Treat Yourself & Don’t Feel Guilty

Indulge a little and I don’t mean go and buy your self a crazy handbag, I mean grab yourself cupcake indulge in a dessert it won’t break the bank although it may go straight to your thighs, give but that doesn’t mean you can’t balance healthy eating. If you are going to indulge make sure it is Ice cream because it contains protein, which is made up of amino acids. The amino acids you get when you eat ice cream can affect your moods.

 

Exercise is Free

Winter could be the worst time to go to the gym because you want to stay indoors and the last thing you want to do is drag yourself to the gym because the idea of cosying up next to the open fire and catching up with Netflix seems so much more appealing, but exercise can boost your mood and you need that lift even more during the winter times. Give yourself incentive book an exercise schedule at the beginning of the week and reward yourself in a small way they say the exercising outside lift your spirits but I’d rather just be warm indoors in the gym. It’s important to stay active as much as possible even if it means a 30 min jog on the treadmill it gets your body temperature up and your blood flowing.

January Bargains

This is probably the one-month I think you can refuse to socialise if you’re not socialising you’re saving money. So with the money you are saving head to the January sales its an amazing time to stock up whether it’s the clothes, books, homeware you can get some really good deals but make sure if you are purchasing clothes that you pick up classic items such as neutral woolly jumpers grab yourself a classic coat for next winter.

 

Detox Mind Body and Soul

Don’t just think the January is the time to detox your body you can detox your home too. I always believe that if you de-clutter your home it helps organise and focus your mind. In essence, this means that you will feel a sense of relief and achievement. So use the time you are indoors to tackle what you would do in the summer.

 

Book Your Holiday in January For The Summer

I left the best to the last, January is probably the best time to even book holidays you can get some really good discounted flights. Book your holiday for the next six months you then have something to look forward to. I hate booking a holiday and then going the following month it comes round to quickly I like to enjoy the excitement of packing my bags to prepare my outfits.
